Leading for Change: Essential Skills for School Psychologists

  • 31 Aug 2023
  • 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • University of Arizona, Chandler Campus, 55 N. Arizona Pl., Chandler, AZ 85225

Registration

Registration is now closed for this event, as participation has reached maximum capacity.

Description: School psychologists’ responsibilities require many behaviors associated with leadership and advocacy. School Psychologists employ these skills when promoting change for individual students, programs, schools, and systems. Understanding the “why”, “how” and “when” for specific skill sets and characteristics associated with leadership and advocacy is important for promoting better outcomes for the children and youth we serve. The AASP Leadership Cadre will provide participants with evidence-based information and opportunities for collaborative problem solving and practical leadership strategies. This five-part hybrid program is designed to help Arizona school psychologists improve their leadership skills, whether they serve in an official leadership role within their schools or want to improve their ability to impact systems change at a local, state or national level. Participants will be provided with engagement activities to apply their learning.

Cadre Facilitator: Leslie Z. Paige, EdS, NCSP (Ret)

Goals for the Participants:

  • recognize our leadership role.
  • act as leaders in our work.
  • act as leaders in our profession.
  • continue to participate in leadership development opportunities.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will review evidence-based models of leadership in the context of school psychologists’ responsibilities.
  2. Participants will discuss skill sets that foster leadership and advocacy for different contexts.
  3. Participants will be provided with practical guidance and opportunities to extend their learning into their work setting.
  4. Participants will share different strategies to engage in leadership and advocacy with fellow cadre members.

Logistics: Session One will be held at the UA Chandler campus in downtown Chandler on Thursday, August 31 from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm.
