Chairperson: Gailyn Garcia, Ph.D.

The primary responsibilities of the Professional Development and Advancement Committee include:

  • Developing regional workshops,
  • Coordinating the Annual Conference,
  • Working with the Futures Liaison to conduct strategic planning,
  • Mentoring new professionals to the field and developing a support cadre,
  • Encouraging ongoing professional growth among school psychologists, and
  • Recognizing individual accomplishments and outstanding contributions to the field of school psychology.

We are well under way in planning the annual AASP conference. Claudia Weiss has been spearheading that effort and the line-up of speakers looks fantastic!

Given the recent revision of IDEA (now IDEA-IA 2004) and the Response to Intervention model of SLD eligibility, we know that professional development will be necessary to implement these regulations and to help us all adapt to our changing school psychology roles. If you have ideas for speakers for our next annual conference or a regional workshop, please do not hesitate to contact us via email:
